Behold, the first photos from our Taiwan trip!

Guy has been writing a more detailed account of our trip thus far, so for now I will direct you to his blog.  He’s had a bit more energy than me at the end of the evening to write (you know, that whole 13 hour jet lag thing really gets to you) and I have my camera cord, hence, photos.  (He forgot his.)  So between the two of us you can see what’s going on.

Quick summary of the photos here:  For lunch our first day we went to Din Tai Fung, which has the most exquisite, juicy, delicious, all-out-perfect xiaolongbao ever.  Xiaolongbao are these wee little pork dumplings that have a sort of soup inside them.  Each dumpling is made by hand, right down to rolling out the skin, and there are 18 folds in each individual dumpling.  You can watch the dumpling-folders in the window as they’re working and it’s pretty awesome.  Anyway, Guy, who is at least a head taller than everyone and definitely the whitest person in any given room, received handy instructions on how to enjoy a xiaolongbao.  Har.  It’s English on one side and Japanese on the other.  You know, for the visitors.  It’s pretty thoughtful, actually.  You can also see Yen Ah Yi eating one - with her soup spoon, which is the best way not to lose any of the yummy filling.

There are some other photos of our dinner the first evening at Red Bean Hall but I haven’t had a chance to get them here yet.  Red Bean Hall is one of my favorite restaurants here.  I could go into raptures about how delicious the food was, but you’d just get jealous.  Plus, it is Monday morning here and we are getting ready to go have adventures with Tammy and Andy.  Tammy is my cousin and Andy is her husband.  They are a few years older than us.  It’s really cool for me to see Taipei with them, because it’s such a younger perspective than I usually get when I’m hanging out with my mom.  (Not that I don’t have plenty of fun with you too, Mom!)

That’s all for now but I’ll be back to write more later!
